About The Event
Race the Cog is one of the most unique footraces in the world, challenging runners to ascend the Mount Washington Cog Railway to the summit of the Northeast’s highest peak.
Held in Bretton Woods, NH, this event offers two options:
Summit Climb (2.75 miles): Race to the top alongside the Cog Railway
Devil’s Shingle Roundtripper (5.5 miles): Continue back down the mountain after reaching the summit
Course Overview
The course follows the Cog Railway tracks from the base station to the summit of Mount Washington, climbing approximately 3,500 feet over 2.75 miles. The terrain begins on dirt and gravel and becomes progressively steeper and more technical, including sections like Jacob’s Ladder and exposed boulder fields near the summit.
